Learning Letters!

Kyler has been learning his letters (Libby too!). We've been working on the "ABC's" for a while, and the song was not going over well. They thought it was fun to sing, but it did little to commit the letters to memory... Other than "A B C D".. the rest were a jumble. Then I discovered the leap frog movie "Letter Factory". Not only do the kids LOVE it, and watch it over and over (all the better!), but Kyler is really catching on to all the sounds. So, my next project was to help him remember what all the letters look like, and to start to associate the letters with WORDS. The kids were so excited to help me put all the letters on the board, and to help me practice all the sounds. Kyler has started pointing out letters all over town, saying things like, "There is that number (he hasn't quite got the letter vs number thing, we're working on that) that makes the 'Mmm' sound!" or, "Wal-mart has a 'Wuh Wuh' number!". It's so fun to watch his progress and see the "light" go on, when he catches on. I've also started putting up little signs all over the house, with words like "couch" or "bed" or "window", etc. Kyler loves going to the signs and telling me what they say, and then finding all the letters on the letter board and saying their sounds. He is making SO much progress!

Jules you are an AWESOME mom! I bet those kids just love love love you! It's true-the alphabet song really does not do much. Make sure you are teaching the lowercase letter along with the uppercase letter because they will see much more of the lowercase when they start to learn to read. If they only know uppercase they get really confused. Good for you! He will be so ready for kindergarten!
